I’VE TRIED EVERYTHING

Mk.5:25-27 -TPT – Now, in the crowd that day was a woman who had suffered horribly from continual bleeding for twelve years. She had endured a great deal under the care of various doctors, yet in spite of spending all she had on their treatments, she was not getting better, but worse.

“I’ve tried everything and nothing ever changes!” Sound familiar? That’s where this poor woman with the issue of blood was. She had spent all her resources and chased rabbits down every rabbit trail to no avail. She was still sick and no hope for a better life. This is how William Barclay describes the situation this woman found herself in.

“The woman in this story suffered from a trouble which was very common and very hard to deal with. The Talmud itself gives no fewer than eleven cures for such a trouble. Some of them are tonics and astringents; but some of them are sheer superstitions like carrying the ashes of an ostrich-egg in a linen rag in summer and a cotton rag in winter; or carrying a barley corn which had been found in the dung of a white she-ass. No doubt this poor woman had tried even these desperate remedies. The trouble was that not only did this affect a woman’s health, it also rendered her continuously unclean and shut her off from the worship of God and the fellowship of her friends (Leviticus 15:25-27).”

Can you identify with this story? Maybe your marriage went off the rails and you have gone to every marriage seminar and spent a small fortune on marriage counseling. Or maybe your finances have been the source of your suffering. No matter how hard you work and budget it seems like someone has pushed the flush lever and your financial future is circling for the last time. Or possibly you are like the woman with a nagging, persistent medical condition that doesn’t go away no matter what expert you see or what healing practices you set in motion. Don’t be dismayed, you are in excellent company. Abraham struggled for twenty years before Isaac was born, Joseph suffered in prison for thirteen years before his world changed, and poor old Job went through unthinkable attacks for nine months. What changed for each of them? The Lord showed up. Job had a visitation, Joseph had a dream, and Abraham found a ram in the bush. Oh yeah, the little lady with the blood issue, she touched the hem of His garment. In a moment everything changed.
