HE IS ALWAYS WATCHING

John 6:5 Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?”

I remember loving all the new worship music created during the outpouring in the 1990’s. Not that other worship music wasn’t good but there was something clearly different on the songs written during that outpouring. That’s when it hit me, most all the spiritual songs that lasted and are being sung today were written in seasons of spiritual awakening. Many church hymn’s were written during the 18th Century outpouring; songs like Amazing Grace by John Newton, and Hark the herald Angels Sing or Oh For a Thousand Tongues to Sing written by Charles Wesley, or Joy to the World by Isaac Watts. Recently I remembered another of those songs, His Eye is on the Sparrow, written in 1905 by Civilla D. Martin. 1905 was during the Wales Revival just months before Azusa Street. Enjoy Civilla’s words.

HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW

Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,

Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home,

When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He:

His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;

His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
Refrain
I sing because I’m happy,

I sing because I’m free,

For His eye is on the sparrow,

And I know He watches me.
“Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,

And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;

Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;

His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;

His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
Refrain
Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,

When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,

I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;

His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;

His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
So here is the good news, no matter what you are facing today Jesus has His eyes on you. He has watched you everyday of your life and has you covered in each and every circumstance. If His eye is on the sparrow I know He watches me.
