2Cor. 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
The Lord said in the book of Revelations that He is making all things new. He started with you and me. The fruit of His death, burial, resurrection, ascension, and glorification is new life in us by the power of the Holy Spirit. We step into this newness of life by faith.
First, we recognize that we are declared righteous by faith in His work on the cross. As far as God is concerned, I appear sinless before Him. The righteous life of Jesus Himself is credited to me. Paul said it like this, “For in it (the gospel) the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, ‘The just shall live by faith’ “.
Next, this righteousness gives me access into the very presence of the Lord. This is what man lost by the sin of our first parents, Adam and Eve, no longer able to live fellowship with God. By faith in the blood of Jesus we can now come boldly into His presence. This is not a promise for rare spiritual moments, this is the new way we can now live our lives. Heb. 10:19,20 “Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh,”
This blessing that comes by faith in His blood also provides for me daily renewal. I am not made new once at conversion, this work of renewal by the Spirit is available for me every time I step into His presence by faith. Paul spoke of this renewal in Titus 3: 4,5. “But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,”
This renewal also helps in a major practical way in the struggle in living free from the power of temptation and sin in this world. Without daily renewal, we are left with our own limited will power (good luck with that) in our struggle to live free from the carnal pleasures of this world. Our total freedom comes from the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Here is how Paul says it in Rom. 8:13 “For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live”.
The blessing that we receive by faith is this, we can live this way. We have a new power living in us.
“Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
