JUST PLAIN BETTER

“But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which
he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises.

Heb. 8:6

Jesus the mediator of a new covenant … the sprinkled blood

that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

Heb. 12:24
Just why is the New Testament that much better than the old? Of course the New Covenant is based on the blood of Jesus; needless to say, much better than sheep or goat blood. It also is said to have better promises than the Old Covenant; but what exactly does that mean? I guess the long and the short of it is this; the New Covenant changes us. He gives us a new heart. That was the problem all along, our heart had been polluted by the fall. The work of Christ on the cross and the resulting filling of the Spirit makes us into new kinds of people. We are changed. We want different things, we love different things, the very desire and nature of our hearts are different. Andrew Murray describes this in his comments on the new and better covenant.
“The better covenant spoken of here was promised in Jeremiah: “This is the covenant I will make … I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts: (Jeremiah 31:33) and “I will make an everlasting covenant with them … to fear me, so that they will never turn away from me” (Jeremiah 32:40). The Lord also declared, “I will cleanse you from all your impurities. I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws” (Ezekiel 36:25, 27). The promises contained in these Scripture passages are more than clear: God Himself will do the work. He will plant the desire in the hearts of His children to never depart from Him, and He will cause them to follow His laws. This is the New “Covenant of which Jesus is the Mediator.”
So that’s it, if Christ is in you are not the same person. His work of redemption and the impartation of the Spirit have made you different. You have a new love for God, His word, and His church. You love to worship and you have a love for the lost. Yep, all things have become new.
