THE FLESH AND THE SPIRIT

Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.

JOHN 3:6

Jesus had a totally different way of looking at everything. What do I mean? He said things like the first must be last and you have to die if you want to live. Give and it will be given, if you forsake your life you will find it. In John 3 He said we must be born again if we want to even see the kingdom of God. He went on to explain what He meant, you have to be born of the Spirit. Today’s verse reminds us that we have to continue in this spiritual impartation if we want to continue in life. Once we are born of the Spirit we have to continue in the Spirit. Life is not only started by the new birth, every day life is dependent on renewal by the Spirit. Here are some thoughts from Andrew Murray on today’s verse.

“A natural life cannot subsist unless it is immediately and continually under the working power of that root or source from which it sprang. Hence, nothing but obedience to the Spirit, faith in Him, and continual inspiration from Him can possibly keep men from sin. The truth and perfection of the gospel state could not show itself until it became a ministration of the Holy Spirit, or a kingdom controlled by the Spirit of God.

When Christ told His disciples that it would be better for them if He left, He taught them the need of their present condition and to joyfully expect the coming of a higher and more blessed state. This, however, could only happen after Christ’s departure when He gave His Holy Spirit to live within them. His outward teaching in human language was changed into the inspiration and operation of His Spirit in their souls.”

If Murray is right, just as we receive forgiveness for sin at the new birth through the washing of regeneration, we receive renewal of the Spirit continually to live a life free from sin and the contamination of this world. The amazing thing to me is that all of this is available to us. The Lord holds up a high standard of a holy lifestyle in front of us and then does the unthinkable. He doesn’t stop with just a demand and an expectation of purity of life, He enables us to live it by doing it Himself through His indwelling Spirit. What an amazing God!! His Spirit gives birth to spirit in me.

  1. AMEN ! I would like to say that one of the things I appreciate from Pastor Bailey is that he REFUSES TO ALLOW his congregation to GET STALE. I am a “Streaming” participant and tell my friends from “other” churches HOW PASTOR comes INTO THE SERVICE PRAYED FULL and “keeps pressing IN TO THE MOVE OF THE SPIRIT and gives “the people” the EXAMPLE of HOW TO PRESS IN !!! I believe THAT WILL BE my FIRST EXPERIENCE when I lay this body down and go to be with MY LORD, SAVIOUR and BEST FRIEND !!! God Bless you Pastor Frank and Pastor Parris !!!
I believe THAT is WHAT ALLOWS the Holy Spirit to MOVE THRU THE CONGREGATION and DRAW Sinners and the Discouraged to the Feet of Jesus again and again !!!
Love you all and Pray for you all !!!

  2. Ooh yes I agree. There absolutely would be no true change in my life if it was not for two amazing people to usher or should I say dig up what has been freely purchased at the cross. It was that transformation force that would penetrate my whole being if I would yield to it. Yes Thank u pastor Frank and Paris for really dyeing in those areas of your life to pour out his spirit.

  3. Whewhoo HALLELUJAH, YES INDEED HALLELUJAH… EVERYTHING NEW DAILY THROUGH HIM AND HIS SPIRIT!!!

PASTOR FRANK, HALLELUJAH… I LOVE YOU. HAVE A BLESSED AND FILLED DAY ALL IN OUR KING OF KINGS, LORD OF LORD’S, OMEGA, ROCK AND ALPHA… :). GLORY TO OUR KING!

  4. There was a party going on at this blog today, I knew there was going to be almost like a dam break from the years of impartation, especially from the laying on of hands. I mean hundreds and hundreds of people every time they are invited to come, (who else does this, I don’t know) I guess when you keep on giving it away, there will always be a freshness filling in the void (when you exist in the river) How do you explain when people get fired up about the job their pastors are doing. I know they are men and women just like us, but when your doing an exemplary (serving as a desirable model; representing the best of its kind) job, it’s OK for people to thank you!
