GOSPEL FEAST

Our first Feed the Multitudes was in July of 1990. The day was more than we had imagined, way more. Whoever thought a day dedicated to giving and serving could actually be enjoyable? Wow, were we ever in for a surprise. The day took on the characteristic of a joyful celebration, reminiscent of the Bible feast days. Those Old Testament feast days were more than just religious observations, they were celebrations. Those days; Passover, Pentecost, and Tabernacles, were the highlights of the jewish year. Feed the Multitudes has become that for us; it is actually one of the most fun days of our year. Jonathan Edwards brought out the joyful nature of the jewish feasts, check out his observations.

“Feasts are made upon joyful occasions and for the manifestations of joy. Ecclesiastes 10:19, “A feast is made for laughter.” Christians, in the participation and communion of gospel benefits, have joy unspeakable and full of glory, a sweeter delight than any this world affords. We are invited in that fore cited place, Isaiah 55:1–2, to come, that our souls may delight themselves in fatness. When the prodigal son returned, they killed the fatted calf and made a feast, and sang and danced and made merry; which represents the joy there [is] in a sinner, and concerning him, when he comes to Christ. Because of the joyfulness of gospel blessings, they are compared to a banquet as well as a feast. Canticles 2:4, “He brought me into the banqueting house.” Thus we have shown how gospel benefits of the gospel are fitly compared {to a feast}. Indeed, all representations are but shadows {of the true feast}.”

If you really think about it, Feed the Multitudes provides a great opportunity to express our faith and enjoy our fellowship in Christ in a practical way. Praying for hurting people, feeding hungry people, giving away shoes to needy children; this is the atmosphere of pure Christianity.
After The Lord performed the great miracle of feeding the 5000 He made a powerful statement. He said, He had food to eat that we didn’t know existed. What was He talking about? He was speaking of the nourishment our soul receives as we feast on Christ in the process of ministering to the hurting. If you are are spiritually hungry maybe you need a new spiritual diet. As we feed on Christ we also need to minister to the hurting and try out this food that Jesus was speaking about.
