BEYOND ALL I COULD ASK OR THINK

BEYOND ALL I COULD ASK OR THINK!

MERRY MONDAY BY PARRIS BAILEY-

“WHO AM I, O LORD GOD? AND WHAT IS MY HOUSE, THAT YOU HAVE BROUGHT ME THIS FAR?” 2 Sam. 7:18

This has got to me one of my favorite passages in the Bible. It is the story of the time when Nathan the prophet came to King David and told him all about the Lord’s plan for David and his lineage. The Lord started with this question: “Would you build a house for me to dwell in?” God continued with “I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel.” And spoke about his lineage with these words, “And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever.” I think if anyone would get a “word from The Lord” this is the one to get.
After David heard these words from Nathan it says that he went in and sat before The Lord and his response is “who am I oh Lord!” I love meditating on the goodness of God in my own life. I think it does one’s soul good to go in and “sit before The Lord”. Whether you find a quiet moment in your home or walking outside enjoying His creation we can start our day with “wow, who am I oh Lord!” I personally am taken back by His goodness, His provision and more than anything the way he draws close to his people. It is far beyond what we could ever ask or think. When we think of David we would consider him “the darling”, “a terror to his enemies” or the “favored one”. But David knew deep within as Paul, that he was the chief of sinners. Not only was David humbled that God chose him, but David also saw what God was bringing him into. Many of us are thankful for salvation, and yes we certainly should be, but do we see what “God has brought us into”? Ps.31:4 says, “Oh, how great is Your goodness, which you have have laid up for those who fear you, which you have prepared for those who trust in You in the presence of the sons of men!”
David also goes onto to say, “Now, O Lord God, the word which you have spoken concerning your servant and concerning his house, ESTABLISH IT FOREVER AND DO AS YOU HAVE SAID.” 2 Sam.7:25 I believe David when he sat before The Lord, had a supernatural encounter with God. God gave him the strength to hold onto the promises of this precious word that Nathan told him. We can read all through the Psalms, David rehearsing over and over again God’s promises while David struggled through his many challenges. This whole passage can describe our prayer walk as a Christian. We start with “Oh Lord, who am I and what is my house?” to “Lord, establish your promises over me”. Yes, we all stand amazed that we are indeed sinners saved by His grace but pressing in to what His promises hold for us and our families. “Our heavenly Banker delights to cash His own notes. Never let the promise rust!” (Revival Bible pg.411)
