SAVED FROM THE WRATH TO COME

SAVED FROM THE WRATH TO COME

1Th. 1:10 and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.

Our modern church world, with its sugar coated message, has taken a one sided approach to its emphasis in its preaching (if you could even call it preaching). The sermons are basically Christian empowerment cliches talking about some vague “God of love”. Justice, wrath, and propitiation are never mentioned; these words may make comprising christians uncomfortable or even worse, effect the size of the offerings. If the truth were known, this so called message of love has robbed our churches from the very power of love which is seen in the preaching of the cross. You see we can’t understand the greatness of God’s love until we recognize exactly what He has saved us from. We are all born in a state of condemnation, as Jesus said, the wrath of God is upon all of those outside of Christ. Christ’s death on the cross satisfied the justice of God, because of His death mercy is now available to us. Charles Spurgeon explains this power of God’s love in his comments on the wrath to come.

“How terrible to await the dread advance of a hurricane-such as occurs, sometimes, in the tropics-to wait in terrible apprehension till the wind shall rush forth in fury, tearing up trees from their roots, forcing rocks from their pedestals, and hurling down all the dwelling-places of man! And yet, sinner, this is your present position. No hot drops have as yet fallen, but a shower of fire is coming. No terrible winds howl around you, but God’s tempest is gathering its dread artillery. As yet the water-floods are dammed up by mercy, but the flood-gates shall soon be opened: the thunderbolts of God are yet in his storehouse, but lo! the tempest hastens, and how awful shall that moment be when God, robed in vengeance, shall march forth in fury! Where, where, where, O sinner, wilt thou hide thy head, or whither wilt thou flee?”

Those of us living in Southeastern Louisiana understand the fury of a hurricane. Nothing can withstand the mighty force of a cat 5 storm. In the same way, nothing man has done can withstand the horrible storm of justice and judgement that is bearing down on the lost. All of mankind will experience a torrential firestorm that will cause Noah’s flood to seem insignificant. Nothing will be able to withstand this storm of retribution that will come suddenly and unexpectedly upon all flesh. No one will be able to say they were not warned. Thankfully, there is a place of safety and refuge that can keep us from this horrible time of judgement. Jesus Christ is our only hiding place that can keep us from the great and terrible day of The Lord. Jesus took our judgement, the very judgement of God, when He suffered and died on the cross. His propitiatory death satisfied the justice of God, I am safe and secure hidden away in the Rock of Ages.

  1. Hallelujah, wow, Pastor Frank its amazing how the Lord gives you visions and understanding about things like that. I was walking in my yard about maybe two weeks ago, maybe longer, just getting out of my Bible, I usually go walk the yard to stretch and look in the sky and all around and Praise Him and Thank Him. Well that day As I was looking around He said Kevin you know your house has doors and Windows and you can easily escape out of your house easily by opening the door or lifting up the window. I said yes Lord, He said to me look all around and I said ok, He said you know the crust that holds the walls and pieces, (crust) around you, I said yes Lord. He said, I own it there is no door no Windows to escape its all mine, crust and all. I said to myself, ha, you are amazing and Powerful, King if Kings, Lord of Lords , Omega, Alpha, ROCK. He said yes I AM. I AM THE DOOR. WHAT A POWERFUL AND ALMIGHTY GOD WE SERVE. with Love, Blessings. 🙂

  2. Amen! Thank you Pastor Frank for allowing God to speak through with such truth, passion, and boldness. I just wanted to share something. I have been at Victory for 17 years minus 1year. God has used you, Pastor Parris, and pastorial staff in my life and my daughter. We are Gods fruit of what He has done through you all. And now God has me on a new journey with a new beginning with my husband. God has done so much in my life so far.
Blessings, Richard, Elizabeth, and Brittany Norton
