OCCUPATION OF WORSHIP

MERRY THURSDAY BY PARRIS BAILEY-
OUR OCCUPATION OF WORSHIP!

“My Soul doth Magnify The Lord” Luke 1:46

The word magnify means to “greaten God”. When we praise God we have come to the ultimatum for which we are saved. “He has made us accepted in the Beloved” and the glory of God is to my mind the highest conceivable end – it certainly is the chief end of my being. Mary made it her occupation and like Mary I join her occupation!
Just think about it, we can praise him when we are in the worst possible scenario. I can still imagine John Bunyan in that horrible prison cell seeing the “crimson river” and writing “Pilgrim Progress”. He too could join in with Mary and sing “My soul doth magnify”. He made it his occupation. The meaning of occupation is: a regular activity that occupies one’s time, a person under service of another by hire and a career, a course through life. Worship becomes ones course through life when that someone is impacted by God.
We don’t have to wait for church to greaten God. In fact, gracious people just become overwhelmed at his goodness. No one else but Elizabeth heard Mary sing that day, but somehow millions have read her outburst.
Some of you would love the fact that magnifying his greatness requires no “out of pocket” cost to you. In fact, the African Methodist church still sing their “spirituals” (songs) which were birthed out of George Whitefield’s preaching on the plantations. His preaching ignited a fire and a hope that’s lifts us out of this present world into an eternal one. Silver and gold have I none!
It doesn’t require great talent or voice to pursue this particular occupation. Whether we find ourselves humming, whistling or belting out our praises, God is a keen listener and rewarder to all those that diligently seek him. We open wide the prison gates of our soul and the King of Glory truly comes in.
We don’t ever retire from this occupation. We can magnify God as long as we live and have breathe and then some.
I love this song by Toby Mac of late:
It’s almost show time, and diverse city is waitin’ on me
We got a packed house, the crowd is callin’ out
They want the beat to drop, but what we really need is you
(Chorus)
If you wanna steal my show, I’ll sit back and watch you go
If you got somethin’ to say, go on and take it away
Need you to steal my show, can’t wait to watch you go-o-o-o
So take it away
So now the crowd is hype, that you showed up tonight
Anticipatin’, cravin’, somethin’ more than smoke and lights
So I’ll step out the way, I’ll give you center stage
Alright, Spotlight give ’em what they came for
(Chorus)
When you arrive, we come to life
Our hearts collide, they’re beating in the same time
You’re comin’ through, all eyes on you
Our hearts collide they’re beating in the same time,
Beating in the same time
No matter who we are, no matter what we do
Every day we can chose to say
(Chorus)
My Life, my friends, my heart, It’s all yours, God, take it away, my dreams
my fears, my family, my career, take it away, It’s all yours, God
Take it away, take it away, “Steal my Show’

  1. How blessed those that God has chosen to reveal Himself to. Those with everything this world offers and no relationship with God can never praise Him yet His children praise Him no matter what — how could we not! Strange, but I think I don’t even praise Him out of me but merely respond to Him for who He is.

  2. Hallelujah, and Hallelujah Pastor Parris. I can remember when I first walked in our Church. And I was just glancing around the Church watchings people worshipping. And I remember looking at sissy in the front the way she worshiped the LORD and I said to my S
self wow look how she spins around. I wasn’t making fun of her but she was full of dance, jumping, praising. And to be honest I said wow. Well one morning I was in my Bible and I can’t remember where it says everyone worships differently ,Donot look at them different they are worshipping me with happiness, joy, love all of the fruits and every body worships differently. Well that next week i walked into Church and i was praising Him and He told me Kevin dance and worship me and show the people what I have done for you. I remember saying back to Him, I’m not gonna do that everybody is looking at me. He said back to me fear not, i am making you a worshipper for me. I just smiled. He told me remember when you walk through the door of the Church you said to me Use me for your glory. And I said yes. So I remember standing there and He said go for it. I started laughing. You know He said to me? He told me Kevin you always went out drinking, doing drugs in the quarter dancing to all of that man made music with no problem you loved the xtc and the cocaine and lived to dance out there in front of everyone. He told me what’s the difference in here,do it in here and see what happens to you. Well this day I thank Him first and then Sissy for spinning around in the front by Pastor Frank. What xtc He is fills me with power i never even knew about.I live to dance for Him and glorify Him. His xtc and drugs are so much better than the world. I really believe That men tried to make this amazing feeling by pills which is called xtc on the street. But thank God. i found my true Savior that has made everything from the beginning to the end that includes music dancing worship singing, everything that I always loved, MUSIC. Always hated tv. But anyway I am so thankful that I stuck to music and dancing. Praise Him I don’t dance to devil and man made music anymore, like what gets your body high xtc. Isnt that sad. Man. Thank you Lord for opening my ears to hear and my eyes to see to hear you and see you, the one i have been searching for all my life. Ha, who shall I fear? Surely not men. I WILL DANCE AND SING AND PRAISE MY FATHER WITH HIS MUSIC LIKE TOBY MAC, THIRD DAY, MANDISA,JESUS CULTURE ANS K-LOVE ALL DAY LONG.WHAT A HIGH HE GIVES ME. NOTHING BUT JOY. FEEL LIKE I AM FLOATING ALL DAY LONG IN HIA LOVE. WHAT A TRANSFORMATION AND EXCITEMENT I HAVE FOUND AND LOOK TO GET UP IN THE MORNING AND SPEND TIME WITH HIM IN HIS PRESENCE. BY THE WAY I DANCE IN THE YARD NOW. PEOPLE THINK I’M NUTS, BUT WHO SHALL I FEAR. HE IS IN ME AND I AM IN HIM. HALLELUJAH. I LOVE YOU ALL. BLESSINGS. I have the joy….. Have an awesome day.

  3. Reading your blog brought Matthew 4:1-10 to mind! It also brought Psalm 29:1-11 to mind too! God has blessed me with a 2011 economy car,a full time job, divine appointments with strangers,a desire to praise him,and more blessings are sure to follow! Wow! All this happened in the past two and a half months. God bless you my fellow saints!
