MERRY MONDAY BY PARRIS BAILEY
-A NAIL IN A SURE PLACE!
“Grace hath been showed from the Lord our God to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place”. Ezra 9:8
I always find comfort when I come across this scripture. Everything else may change in my life but not our God (that’s another reason we are not to fear who gets elected in Nov.). For Christ is our constant and sure abode. “And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father’s house.” Is.22:23 Really all else is just sinking sand.
Simpson said, “This is a nail in a sure place. The Lord Jesus Christ is not a guess, a possibility, a theory. He is a mighty certainty. All the assaults of skepticism have only succeeded in establishing Him more firmly in the sure place which He holds in the Word of God, in the hearts of His people and in the plan of redemption. When we trust Him we know that we are resting on a solid rock, and that all else “is sinking sand.” His kingdom is the only certainty of the future. Our best systems of government, our highest forms of civilization, will all pass away, but “His kingdom shall never be removed, and His dominion endures throughout all generations.” The only stable investment for our lives is there.”
In 2 Tim. 2:19 it says, “Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his.” Our faith isn’t something that we have to “muster up on our own” and try to hold onto lest we lose it. But we are part of an everlasting kingdom, God’s truths are unshakable and His truths are forever fixed. He will come redeem His precious Bride the Church and set up His throne. Everyday when my feet hit the floor it does me good to meditate on “the grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever” Is. 40:8. I have to decide which kingdom am I going to live in? Am I seated in heavenly places or on top of a dunghill?
Matthew Henry said, “God’s elect themselves; who are of God’s founding, and are as immovable as the firmest foundation whatever, even as rocks and mountains, and stand sure upon the rock of ages, Christ Jesus, and shall never perish; nor can they be deceived by false Christs and false prophets, but will remain safe and sound, when the faith of ever so many is subverted by them.”
Yes, we can rest knowing Christ is our nail in a sure place and He has attached us to that very nail.
“Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy wounded side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure,
Save from wrath and make me pure.”
