GLORY TO GOD

GLORY TO GOD!!!!

Ex. 3:14-15 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” God, furthermore, said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is My name forever, and this is My memorial-name to all generations.

One of the foundational truths of the reformation was Soli deo gloria, the glory of God alone. This foundational teaching of the church is critical to keep us on course. It is so easy to get off track and allow our focus to be more on man’s efforts and man’s accomplishments rather than centered on the glory of God alone. During the reformation, a Catholic cardinal by the name of Sadolet wrote a letter to the protestant leaders in Geneva to try to persuade them to return to the teachings of the Catholic Church. John Calvin responded with a powerful response focused on the Glory of God. Here is something of what he said from John Piper’s book The Legacy of Sovereign Joy.

“Here’s what Calvin said to the Cardinal: “[Your] zeal for heavenly life [is] a zeal which keeps a man entirely devoted to himself, and does not, even by one expression, arouse him to sanctify the name of God.” In other words, even precious truth about eternal life can be so skewed as to displace God as the center and goal. This was Calvin’s chief contention with Rome. This comes out in his writings over and over again. He goes on and says to Sadolet that what he should do—and what Calvin aims to do with all his life—is “set before [man], as the prime motive of his existence, zeal to illustrate the glory of God.”

This is one of the things we have lost in our modern day pursuit of so called relevance in the church. Rather than being focused on God and His Glory we have settled for teachings about improving our quality of life on earth attributing those improvements to some kind of teachings or principles found in the Bible. We have missed the whole point of God’s revelation of Himself in scripture. The Bible is not a self improvement manual no matter how we spin it. It is a revelation of the Glory of God seen at it’s peak in the spectacular glory seen in the person and work of Jesus Christ. Man has a tendency to drift away from our moorings if left unchecked. Establishing a doctrinal foundation to under gird our life is critical in these difficult times. While others are wandering off on man made rabbit trails it becomes urgent for us to strengthen ourselves and our church by reestablishing the basic foundational doctrines of the protestant reformation. This is our heritage. Let all things be done for the Glory of God. After all, all things come from Him, through Him, and for Him. Glory to God!!!!

  1. It all goes back to abideing in the vine, we know little or can do anything outside of Jesus, The time we live in is full of things that would try to take this away, we have a personal relationship with the Lord his ways and leading and coluncil are so much better than being under manmade rules that do nothing for anyone nor do they do anything for the kingdom of heaven, we kn ow we are his anyone lead by the Holy Spirit, receiveing Gods word and bearing fruit living for him running after his goodness ,loving our brothers and sisters, I would say someone like this is really a beleiver! Too many Christains go by their own understanding, lots of luck they will need it! On our own we will mess it up but abideing in the vine Jesus it wont go wrong, its all our natures to wan t to do it earn our salvation witch is impossiable, He already did it for us, laws is mans way to b e rightous not Gods way, knowledge puffs up If we stay humble before the Lord let him teach in all and lead in all corecting us an dajusting us for his glory and walking in that seeking to know and please Him walking and ab ideing in the vine asking to walk upright by his grace letting the Lord call the shots in our lives not what we think but what He wants for us, We have so much here God has given us everything to know him he has given us Himselve.

  2. Glory be to God, its all His. From the crusts of the outer walls of the earth. Amen. He’s my Vine. Thank you Holy Spirit.
