THE MANIFOLD GRACE OF GOD

THE MANIFOLD GRACE OF GOD-
Merry Monday by Parris Bailey

“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God” or “as good stewards of God’s many-sided kindness” (Weymouth) 1 Peter 4:10

Years ago Frank preached a wonderful message on this scripture. In fact Frank was describing the face of Victory Fellowship in the years to come. We had just moved to Airline Highway and our vision was to have a multi-racial church. His grace after all is multi-faceted. We wanted to welcome the “Frank and Parris” of our day. God’s grace can reach anyone. The word manifold in greek is “Poikilos”-1) a various colors, variegated 2) of various sorts. (Thayers) Barnes says- His favors are not confined to one single thing. Let’s study this word a little closer.
Barclay says this about this scripture: “No possible problem can arise to which the grace the God cannot supply the solution; no possible task can be laid upon us which the grace of God cannot find a way to do. There is no possible set of circumstances, no possible crisis, emergency or demand through which the grace of God cannot find a way, and which the grace of God cannot triumphantly deal with and overcome. There is nothing in life with which the grace of God cannot cope. It is indeed sufficient for everything.”
I love what Spurgeon says,”We are told of “manifold mercies,” that is, mercies which are folded up one in another, so that you may unwrap them and find a fresh mercy enclosed in every fold. Manifold as in a bundle, take Christ in his different characters, and you will see a marvelous variety – prophet, priest, king, husband, friend, shepherd. Take him in his life, death, resurrection, ascension, second advent, take him in his virtue, gentleness, courage, self-denial, love, faithfulness, truth, righteousness – everywhere it is a bundle. Some of God’s judgments are manifold, but all God’s mercies are manifold, and Christ being the sum of God’s mercies, hath in fold upon fold of goodness. He is ‘a bundle of myrrh’ for variety.”
The grace of God flows into every part of us and lives out His own life in all the diversified experiences and activities of our manifold life. His graces come to us unfolded in beautiful variety and completeness. Even the river that flows from God flows from manifold streams of supply. Simpson
Not only will we never understand this word Grace but we will never stop needing it. What is it today that you are in need of that He cannot supply? He knows what you have need of before you even ask, He is just that kind of God. Not only does He comes but He brings His gifts full of variety and depth! Now that is some good preaching!

  1. Yes, It is some Good Preaching! One day I heard the Lord say, “look for my Manifold Presence” at the time I thought, “what is a manifold, God?”….O’ but with your post I see more clearly it “is” a beautiful, unfolding of HIS Love displayed right beneath our eyes.” Glory that abounds in us; (he who abides in us) begins to wash over our heart, our mind, til’ our arms open wide to embrace the depth of HIM. The fruit that grows is a kindness that flows from our heart not to please others, but from the well of His abiding love.

This amazing love, How can it be….

  2. Very good preaching, only by grace are any saved, Im really coming into seeing more of this we can do nothing without him, we saw God take a dead church and bring life to it, this doesnt happen too often, we saw a brother lead two people to the lord on his death bed, he went to be with the lord friday, he was our senior pastors brother in law. Sunday we babtised the two that came to know Jesus one of these men was very wicked and known for this, now he is a new child of God when he was saved and babtised we were so amazed and blessed. we prayed before Robbie died that something good could come out of a b ad thing, the Lord used him before he was taken home, Gods grace has changed all of us, If we abide in him that will be so heavy on us all, seeing the Holy Spirit move among the people all out of a once dying stuborn southern Bab tist church, what happened was a few of the deacons that happened to be spirit filled stayed with it for a long time praying for God to move pastors came and left they kept praying and were very faithfull brought in right on brothers to teach the word when there was no longer a pastor, we heard about what was going on we live three houses down from there qand started going and helpin g out were ever we were needed, these deacons full of faith blew our minds, we started pratin g for a sold out man of God to come be the pastor started looking gav e up looking, then My wife said what about Heath Kilpatric I told her he would be great burt I think he is commited pastoring somewhere and he has a very good job, We told the head decon anyway come to find out our head deacon was his highschool teacher and kn ew him well he went to his house aske3d him to come preach and we all knew he was the one Heath quit his very good job and is now pastoring full time he has six kids he steped out on faith the lord told Him now you have to get there early to get a place to sit we have many standing in the back after we run out of chairs the message is simple love the lord salvation live for him know him love one another and live by his word by the power and athority of the holy spirit Heath does teach on wed. nites more on Bible after He opens up the Church to feed the hungry all this happened because a few right on deacons pressed on a beleived God to change a bad thing into something God wanted and God gave them the grace to do and hang in there for a very long time, we see Babtists raise their hands and really get into praise and worship and getting very bold for the Lord all this in a few short mounths gods grace can do more than we can ever think!
