FREEDOM OR BONDAGE OF YOUR WILL

FREEDOM OR BONDAGE OF YOUR WILL

Matt. 6:10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.

This prayer is at the very heart of our Christian experience. This is where the collision of man’s will and God’s will takes place. Many people in our modern society revere the free will of man without taking into consideration the catastrophic effect the fall of man has effected our ability to make right decisions in life. What we think of as free will is not quite accurate. As Luther taught us, our will has been enslaved to sin. We may want to choose right but sin often manages to get in the way. The prayer Jesus taught us to pray, “thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” is impossible to pray from a true heart until grace begins to have its way in our lives. Before grace comes, our best spiritual efforts fall short, even our prayers are all about us. Once we are born again, that can begin to change. Our will has finally been set free, our will (or our pleasures and desires) begins to take on a whole new perspective. We love different things, we want different things, we want to do different things. We can actually begin to pray “thy will be done” and mean it from our heart. John Calvin spoke about praying thy will be done and its far reaching effect on our world.

“But it may be objected: Ought we to ask from God what, he declares, will never exist to the end of the world? I reply: When we pray that the earth may become obedient to the will of God, it is not necessary that we should look particularly at every individual. It is enough for us to declare, by such a prayer as this, that we hate and regret whatever we perceive to be contrary to the will of God, and long for its utter destruction, not only that it may be the rule of all our affections, but that we may yield ourselves without reserve, and with all cheerfulness, to its fulfillment.”

This whole praying God’s will thing is one of the greatest evidences of true conversion. The very heart of our lives consists in our will. The natural man is consumed with himself and his own agenda, the spiritual man has been liberated in the new world of joy found in delighting in God and delighting in God’s will. God’s ultimate plan is for His glory to be seen in the whole world. He joys in the conversion of the lost. When we know the freedom and joy found in embracing God’s plan of reaching the lost with the amazing message of His saving grace, and we begin to pray, “thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven”, then God is glorified and we are satisfied. So why not start today, “Lord let your kingdom come, let your will be done” beginning in my heart.

  1. Amen x 10! There is nothing harder for the natural man (or so he thinks) than to surrender his will and yet at the same time he is in great bondage to the world, the flesh and you know who. True freedom is only found when a heart fully surrenders and finds the center of the Father’s will for his life.

  2. I know for myselve if I think of something without really seeking the lord on a matter often times I need to do the very oppisit from the thoughts that I was thinking, His ways on everything are so much better than mine we get in his way, if we go by our own understanding and not really seek him we will end up in trouble, by making bad discisions and poor choices, sometimes its best to wait on the lord our old nature wants to get in there and lead us down the wrong way from what the lord wanted, been there done that not worth it. if we listen to anything contrayie to the lord and act on it it can cause many problems that then we have to go back get it right with the lord then have to seek him on what to do with the problem that came out of going by own understanding which ive found is a total waste instead of being really blessed for that time we really got in his way and he had it planned for so much better, I pray not to do that, let go and let him do what he wants its ok to ask Him, sometimes He will show me stuff sometimes he tells us to just be still and know he is God.

  3. Amen and Amen, Let (YOUR) KINGDOM COME AND LET YOUR WILL BE DONE, ON EARTH AS IT IS HEAVEN. FOR YOURS IS THE KINGDOM, THE POWER AND GLORY FOREVER. PRAISE YOU!!!!!

  4. It is by Grace given unto us that takes from a life once, of torment and shame to a life of joy unspeakable; where by the “awe of” and “aroma” of our salvation we gladly stand up to proclaim to the lost the glory of His name. It is not by our perfection but by the working of the cross where we are fitted with a robe of righteouness to hold high the banner of Christ that is now glory manifested in us …so that all may see the hope of of eternal life, that all may give glory due his name. That his will be done.

  5. Read this scripture concerning freedom.1Peter2:11-20. We are no longer slaves to sin! Even though satan tries to tell us otherwise! He’s just ticked that we aren’t his slaves anymore! God bless you my fellow member of Jesus Christ!
