PIERCING THE DARKNESS

PIERCING THE DARKNESS

2Tim. 3:1 ¶ This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

We are obviously experiencing a melt down in our society. Our Christian, Protestant heritage in our country has been eroded in my life time. We would never imagine the horrors that have crept in among us. Columbine marked the beginning of a new season, characterized by our godless culture. As many people have recently said, “America’s chickens are coming home to roost”. The recent debacle at the Batman movie in Colorado seems to have launched us into a new level of insanity. Perilous times have come. Paul’s prophesy is being fulfilled. Here are a couple of word definitions on the word perilous. Vincent emphasized it being a specific season.

Perilous times-Lit. hard times- denotes a definite, specific season.

Thayer spoke of the difficulty in facing and surviving perilous times

1) hard to do, to take, to approach
2) hard to bear, troublesome, dangerous

Matthew Henry exposes the self centeredness that precipitates this violent behavior. Obviously this man they call the Joker was only consumed with himself, he was miserable and no one else mattered. This was clearly a mark of the perilous times.

“Paul tells Timothy what would be the occasion of making these times perilous, or what shall be the marks and signs whereby these times may be known. Self-love will make the times perilous. Who is there who does not love himself? But this is meant of an irregular sinful self-love. Men love their carnal selves better than their spiritual selves. Men love to gratify their own lusts, and make provision for them, more than to please God and do their duty. Instead of Christian charity, which takes care for the good of others, they will mind themselves only, and prefer their own gratification before the church’s edification.”

For us who are His living in these dark times the opportunities are all around us. When these difficult seasons are pummeling the world, the lost have nothing left to put their confidence in. There is no where to hide, even the movie theaters are dangerous.
Today, during these prophesied perilous times, it is our time to present Christ to a traumatized world. As Jesus predicted, men’s hearts would be failing them for fear. For the Christian we have a shelter to run to in these dark days. The Lord is our defense and rather than hiding away in fear, we stand in confidence, presenting Christ to the world. Timothy lived in perilous times. Church members were being arrested and killed as he pastored the church in Ephesus. Paul told him to stir up the gift of God that he had received through the laying on of hands. He also said, God had not given him a spirit of fear but of love, power, and a sound mind. It is in times like we are living in that we discover who we are and what we believe. Darkness is covering the earth but the light of the gospel pierces the darkness.

  1. I ponder often the darkness that was my life in the past! How the world had total control over my actions! Thinking about it makes me think about the movie the Matrix! How the people in the matrix had to be rescued by somebody. Wow! Without Jesus we would still be living in the world! Now we live in Gods Kingdom! Good morning friends! Jesus Christ Rules!

  2. We are in the age even more that was spoken about, if we dont love the lord with our first love and our brothers and sisters we have missed it completely, we will be hindered from gGodsa will in our lives, I want the love of God shed in my life by the power of the Holy Spirit, im glad Jesus didnt leave us without sending the Holy Spirit to comfort us and to lead us in His truth, we are seeing people come into this that have been religious all their lives, never miss a service, if sxomeone takes hundreds of hours in trainin g they better know how to fix something or fly a jet, but many religios people3 just show up dont change pay their thyes and offerings, when the Holy Spirit takes control of their lives a big change takes place, every thing they heard for years comes alive! we are seeing this happen in the Babtist church were we live, now some refuse to allow this so they find another place to go, we3 have Babtist churchs here on every corner, this one church has allowed the lord to work in spite of their dogma an d doctorines, they sought out help in the word and reaached out to the Body of Christ and received this, I really beleive they really meant it and their hearts were wanting to please the Lord and they knew there was so much more they wernt getting, now they are Babtist o costals! God help us all! im Blessed to see this, with all the disete going on right now this shows me if a person seeks the will and heart of the Lord He will make away for us and even people that dont know very much to come into His truth, these days we have to know the Lord and stay very close to Him so none of us will be deceaved but know his will and understanding what He wants, This isnt about us at all its about him.

  4. what a great conversation opener-Did you see the new Batman movie? When fear arises in their eyes, you know they are not saved. Easy to lead a person to the Lord, when they don’t know where they’re going! Our response should be: “Did anyone ever tell you God has a wonderful plan for your life? If you were to die today, do you know if you would go to heaven? The bible reads whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved…May I pray for you to receive Jesus?” I do believe I’ll use this conversation opener TODAY. Thanks for the idea.

  5. Wow, I also look back on my life when I was out there in that dark world, and just say to my Heavenly Father Thank You for grabbing me with your right hand and pulling me out of it. Holy Spirit stir up my gift please guide me and let me know where I need to go. Where you go, I go where you stay, I stay. Give me guidance and directions. amen.
I will tell about Christ all The days of my life.
