DRAW ME

“Draw me, we will run after thee” Song of Solomon’s 1:4

Merry Monday by Parris Bailey

It’s amazing how you can be a Christian and never see certain truths or verses in the Bible. This verse is a prime example of my stupidity or blindness. It is only He who draws us and that’s the only way we can ever run. I always wondered how on God’s green earth that I ever got saved. Not being raised going to a Bible teaching church nor ever around any Christian values or beliefs, I would definitely classify myself as “heathen dog”. But here we see the heavenly call in this verse, “Draw me and we will run after thee. The King hath brought me into His chambers. “What a wake up call when we realize that even our love is the response to another love that first drew us. “We love Him because He first loved us.” “By the grace of God I am what I am.” And on and on can we find scriptures that show our incapability of turning to God. Our longings after God were first inspired in us by God Himself, and we can never more than apprehend that for which we are apprehended of Christ Jesus. It is the unmeasurable grace of God.
Spurgeon says, “Oh! breathe the prayer tenderly, “Draw me,” and you will soon find power to run, and when all your passions and powers are fled, the King will speedily bring you into his chamber. Dark as your present state may be, there are sure signs of breaking day. I want you, brethren, to believe and to expect that you shall hold this night with Christ the richest, sweetest fellowship that ever mortal was privileged to enjoy, and that of a sudden. I know your cares – forget them. I know your sins – bring them to his feet. I know the wandering of your heart – ask him to tether you to his cross with the same cords that bound him to the pillar of his flagellation. I know your brain is perplexed, and your thoughts flying hither and thither, distracted with many cares – put on the thorn-crown, and let that be the antidote of all your manifold disquietudes. Methinks Jesus is putting in his hand by the hole of the door. Are not your bowels moved for him? Rise up and welcome him; and as the bread is broken, and the wine is passed round, come, and eat and drink of him, and be not strange to him. “Let not conscience make you linger”; let not doubts and fears hold you back from fellowship with him who loved you or ever the earth was, but do rest your unworthy head upon his blessed bosom, and talk with him, even though the only word you may be able to say may be, “Lord, is it I?”
The word “draw” means to proceed or go before, Jesus becomes our “forerunner” leaving us an example that we should follow in His steps. We are helpless in our sinful condition until the daystar arises in our hearts with supernatural supply. David even cried out, “I will run in the way of thy commandments when thou shalt enlarge my heart.” (Ps.119:32)
Will you not respond to this urgent drawing? The woman at the well told Him that the well was deep and He had nothing to draw with, but in the end she left her water-pot. I left mine a long time ago, I pray you do too.

  1. God truly rewards those who diligently seek him out! James 4:3-10. God calls his beloved to come out of the world many times in the scriptures! 2 Peter 1:4-8. I love both my friends and enemies as Jesus Christ would have me too! Our warfare is not against flesh and blood! But against the devil and his demons! Although God does the fighting through us and the angels! He won the war when Jesus Christ died on the cross and was resurrected by God the Father three days later!
