The earth is the LORD’S, and all it contains, The world, and those who dwell in it. For He has founded it upon the seas And established it upon the rivers.

Recently, Parris and I went kayaking in Florida at St. Joseph’s State Park (I never knew Joseph had a park in Florida). We had a great time there and were caught off guard by the surprising beauty that we observed. I guess someday we will stop being surprised, He has left His mark on everything, as David said, “the earth is the Lord’s”. From the moment we slipped into the inlet, the dance of God’s creatures began in the clear waters below us. From the stingrays gliding effortlessly across the bottom, to the strange gathering of the horseshoe crabs, to the over abundance of the hermits, it was as if they were all competing for our attention. Then there was the schooling minnows like dark clouds in the water, to the mackerels jumping and dancing for joy. It seemed like creation was calling out to their glorious Creator.
Michael Gungor has a song, “The Earth Is Yours”, that glorifies this aspect of God’s beauty. Enjoy his lyrics.

Your voice it thunders
The oaks start twisting
The forest sounds with cedars breaking
The waters see You and start their writhing
From the depths a song is rising
Now it’s rising from the ground
Holy, holy, holy, holy Lord
The earth is Yours and singing
Your voice it thunders
The ground is shaking
The mighty mountains
Now are trembling
Creation sees You
And starts composing
The fields and trees
They start rejoicing
And now it’s rising from the ground
Now it’s rising from the ground
Hear us crying out

Make a conscience effort to observe God in His creation today, He is calling out to us in everything we observe. As you observe the dance of creation, don’t be surprised when you see that your life has been part of the dance all along. Sometimes, things in our life can be quite painful and often hard to understand; disappointments, heartbreak, set backs, and unrealized expectations are all part of the dance. The victory comes when we see His hand in it all. Joseph’s “dance” led him from a pit to a prison, from false accusation to a palace. Part of his dance was painful, but God was in it all. He was purposely leading Joseph throughout his life, Joseph’s destiny was sure even though it was hidden for years. Maybe St. Joseph is a good name for that park after all, He is the Lord of the dance whether it is with the horseshoe crabs or with the prison guards, He is orchestrating it all.

  1. I would not count on – “I guess someday we will stop being surprised,”. In fact I am boldly stating that for all eternity we shall all be amazed with every passing moment! This scripture, your thoughts and the song lyrics evoke the thought of Psa 19:1
For the choir director: A psalm of David. The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship (NLT)

  2. “His victory comes when we see His hand in it all”. Thank you Pastor Frank.

And His victory strengthens our Faith and Trust just as it did Joseph. But Joseph just didn’t just see the victory he forgave his evil brothers which was probably harder than all the years of the painful tribulations and lies he lived through from the evil of his own blood brothers.

Because Joseph lived before Christ he did not live to see the stripes and pain endured by Our Savior while we were all yet the worse of sinners. Had Joseph lived he would had have the advantage of knowing what Christ endured to overcome sin and death for us. The way I have learned to endure tribulations, evil and evildoers lies is to think of what sinless Christ went through for us. And if Christ, as a sinless person, can be tried, spit upon, accused of lies and persecuted who are we as sinners to think we should be immune to such injustices; and as sinners should we not also be able to endure the same, all for the the Praise and Glory of His Name ?

So when His victory becomes our victory over evil let’s not forget tp forgive and then remember the Faithfulness of Our Lord and that such trials and tribulations always brings the fruits of victory, being able to forgive and growing closer to Him and The Father.Amen !1 Amen!! and Amen!!!

  3. what a sweet message !!!! i subscribe to the web site that updates the family of inmates of progress in the Louisiana prison system. The man writting the reports is an ex-convict, but he’s now the head of the organization and is the author of the news letter. he always starts the post with a “saying” that provokes thought. it always has Jesus at the heart of the encouragement…this morning’s message-before-the-news was ” In all the set backs of your life as a Beliver, God is plotting for your Joy!” This was especially touching knowing that this man buried his son today. His son was gunned down in Treme last week, but had also served time in Angola …19 years.
What makes a father look for the Joy of the Lord at such a time ??!! I know … its the dance happening all over this world and its ever before us. the search for relationship with our God, opens our eyes to the amazing marvels that are everywhere. How blessed are we when He allows us to see the delights of His creation, its for us to share with Him. Sometimes i stop a think about when God designed a mosquito hawk ( for yall not from N.O. its a dragonfly). He had to laugh at those googlie eyes and the delicate wings and o the colors ……
and in life or death Jesus contiues to work ALL things for good towards we who love Him .
