Free from Sin

Free From Sin

1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? 3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Romans 6:1-4

In Romans 6 Paul talks about the death of our old life. He talks about us being crucified with Christ. He also says that if our old life is dead, consider ourselves as dead men. We no longer have to live as natural men, our old life is finished. If this is true, change is possible. The Lord not only dealt with sin, He dealt with the sinner. He crucified him. If you have been crucified with Christ, you are dead to sin. Consider yourselves dead. How do I consider myself dead to sin? Of course by reflecting on the “mercies”of God. The Word of God becomes our place of refuge. As we soak ourselves in scripture, this precious truth comes alive. I am dead to sin. I am alive to God. That person I used to be is gone. There is a new man living inside of me. Who is that new man? Of course it is the Heavenly Man, Jesus Christ. Christ’s death not only dealt with sin, He dealt with the sinner. I was crucified with Christ. The natural man was put to death so the Heavenly Man could be revealed. As we identify with Christ by faith, these truths are awakened. As we are awakened, we begin to walk in the power of this new life.
Why spend another day living that miserable old life, wallowing in the fears, temptations, and depression of this dark world? Start living, really living today. I beseech you therefore brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice.
