REMISSION OF OUR SINS
26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” 27 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, 28 for this is my blood of the* covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins
The precious blood of Jesus cleanses us of our sin. Jesus used a beautiful word, aphesis, in this passage which can be translated forgiveness or remission. This word means to release, so for us it brings great news. Not only are our sins forgiven, but we are freed from the power of sin. All of us were born in a state of slavery. We were bound by are own lusts that were enflamed by the sensual pleasures of this world. When we believe on the wonderful Name of Jesus, there is a deliverance that takes place. The prison doors of this world are opened, and we are set free. We are freed to start a brand new life, a different kind of life. A new love has entered into or lives. No longer addicted to the lusts of this world, but strangely attracted to Jesus. Our sins have been removed from us ” as far as the east is from the west”. This new love is drenched in the Joy of the Lord. We have come near by the blood of Jesus.
